APNEC Delegation Meets PEMRA Chairperson Ambreen Jan, Key Progress on Media Workers’ Rights

APNEC Delegation Meets PEMRA Chairperson Ambreen Jan: Significant Progress on Media Workers’ Issues

Islamabad (PR): A delegation of the All Pakistan Newspapers and Electronic Media Employees Confederation (APNEC), led by its Central Chairman Muhammad Siddique Antar, held an important meeting with PEMRA Chairperson Ambreen Jan. During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the issues faced by media employees, particularly the non-payment of salaries on time, pending dues, and عدم implementation of minimum wage laws.

The APNEC delegation informed the Chairperson that many media organizations are not only failing to pay salaries on time but are also violating government-mandated minimum wage laws. As a result, media workers are facing serious financial difficulties.

On this occasion, PEMRA Chairperson Ambreen Jan took a clear and firm stance, stating that ensuring the implementation of Pakistani laws is her responsibility and that no leniency will be shown in this matter. She further stated that PEMRA, as a regulatory body, will issue directives to all TV channels to ensure that outstanding dues of employees are paid without delay.

She assured that complete details regarding salaries and payments will be sought from all channels so that immediate and effective actions can be taken based on facts, leading to a permanent resolution of the issues faced by media workers.

The APNEC delegation included Raja Javed Khan, Sobia Khan, and Syed Gulzar Gilani. The delegation appreciated the personal interest of the PEMRA Chairperson and acknowledged that, due to her intervention before Eid, some organizations had paid salaries to media employees, providing timely relief to workers. The delegation expressed gratitude for this positive step.

The delegation reaffirmed its commitment to continue its struggle for the protection of media workers’ rights and pledged full cooperation with PEMRA to ensure a lasting solution to the problems faced by the journalistic community.
